Synetiq Auction Fees & Buyer Guide

Synetiq is the UK's largest integrated salvage and vehicle recycling company. Since being acquired by IAA (Insurance Auto Auctions), they have adopted a global bidding platform that offers thousands of vehicles every week.

If you are looking for repairable salvage, stolen-recovered cars, or green parts, Synetiq is a prime marketplace. However, their tiered fee structure can catch new buyers out.

How Synetiq Fees Work

Unlike eBay, the hammer price is not what you pay. You must budget for the "Fee Stack." While rates fluctuate based on account type, expect the following:

  • 1. Hammer Price Your winning bid
  • 2. Buyer Fee Approx 10% - 20% (Tiered)
  • 3. Internet Bid Fee Fixed fee for online platform use (~£20-£50)
  • 4. Service / Gate Fee Handling charge (~£15-£25)
  • 5. VAT (20%) Added to ALL fees above

Note: If the car is "VAT Qualifying" (e.g., commercial vans), 20% VAT is added to the hammer price as well.

Can I buy from Synetiq?

Public Buyers

Yes. You can register and buy:

  • Category N (Non-Structural)
  • Category S (Structural)
  • Used / Unrecorded vehicles

Restricted (Cat B)

No. The public cannot buy:

  • Category B (Breaker Only)

Requires valid Waste Management & Scrap Metal Dealer licenses.

⚠️ The Storage Trap

Synetiq storage fees are aggressive. You typically have 24-48 hours after payment to collect. After this grace period, you will be charged approx £20-£25 per day.

Essential Checks

1. Hidden History?

"Cat N" implies light damage, but was the car stolen before? Is there outstanding finance? Synetiq sells as seen.

Check Vehicle History

2. Drive-Away Cover

Collecting a runner? Standard insurance usually excludes salvage cars. You need a temp policy.
